I wholeheartedly agree with the capitalistic nature of this trend. However as someone who did buy a Louis carmen in September 2024, I have journaled regularly since, taken up sketching and water color and as a whole gotten my shit together by simply making weekly to do lists. All this to say, the commodification of journaling has worked wonders for me 😅

I have been so guilty of getting sucked into this in the past. I've settled into using whatever notebook I have handy now but still a bit fussy about the pen!

The way you articulate the hesitation before the first word is so relatable, it’s almost a ritual of creative initiation. It’s a refreshing reminder that uncertainty isn’t a barrier to creativity but the very foundation of it!

The publication of something so personal, like journaling, is what makes it hard for me as a person to feel comfortable doing the act because I have a fear that I am doing it wrong in comparison to those around me who publicize how they do it. I love how you articulate your thoughts about the journaling subculture and what social media has really done to it, this was a fantastic read.

I love this idea! Journaling for the sake of journaling. It’s important as an act in itself. Why? Because the benefits are clear. What method do you use? Doesn’t matter. Just get your thoughts out there. I grab the cheapest notebook from the local supermarket and write. Done for today. Move on. Rinse and repeat tomorrow. Clear your mind, find balance. That’s all that matters.
